New York: Houghton Mifflin, 2006. The Rise of String Theory, The Fall of a Science, And What Comes Next "Plainly, there are different approaches to the five fundamental problems in physics". I enjoy reading layman physics books. We have a Big Bang theory of the birth of the cosmos and only the known forces to account for the presently observed universe. Superstring theory has always both intrigued and bothered me. The Trouble with Physics is split into four parts, each of which offers an excellent look into science through different prisms. Just finished reading Lee Smolin's The Trouble with Physics: The Rise of String Theory, the Fall of a Science, and What Comes Next. Believe it or not, but I've been reading a book on theoretical physics. Two recent popular science books provide a startling peek into the deep scientific and sociological troubles in the world of superstring theory. The problem with image macros and rage comics (besides generally lacking wit or anything genuinely insightful) is that they're quick and easy to digest, and thus tend to get upvoted faster than self posts and actual discussions which take thought and time before an appropriate response can meted out. And, I enjoy the Science vs Religion debates, especially those that cast Science as a Religion. The Trouble With Physics: The Rise of String Theory, The Fall of a Science, and What Comes Next Overview. (You know how there are "cat" people and "dog" people? One person doesn't like questions on British spelling on english.so or string theory on physics.so and gradually those sites die. I first came across The Trouble with Physics after reading The Elegant Universe and receiving this comment which pointed me to this review. Well, there are "math" engineers and "physics" engineers. The mind calls out for a third theory to unify all of physics, and for a simple reason, Nature is in an obvious sense unified.
